Please join our 13th webinar “GoHE in Conversation with…” organised by OECD and ERIA. Our next guest will be Gerald Bast, rector of the University of Applied Arts of Vienna – Die Angewandte (https://www.dieangewandte.at/), Austria .

In a 45-minute event (including Q&A), we will discuss with Gerald about transdisciplinarity and the interrelation between the arts, science and society. We will assess the interaction between digital transformation, artificial intelligence, politics and art, discussing the bridging role of higher education.

About the speaker: Gerald Bast is rector of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Austria since 2000. After his studies in law and economics at Johannes Kepler University Linz, where he earned a Doctorate in Law, he worked at the Federal Ministry of Higher Education and at Ludwig Boltzmann Research Society. He is member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, and editor-in-chief of the book series ”Art, Research, Innovation and Society”. As university president Gerald Bast initiated various new programs focusing on transdisciplinarity and the interrelation between the arts, science and society, like “Art&Science”, “Social Design” and “Cross-disciplinary Strategies”.

He founded the “Angewandte Innovation Lab”, accentuating the role of the arts in innovation processes by facilitating intercommunication between art, science & technology, economics and politics.

Gerald Bast published in the fields of university law, university management as well as educational and cultural policy and he held various invited lectures on the role of art, creativity, innovation and higher education, among them at Johns Hopkins University Washington D.C., Columbia University New York, Tsing Hua University Beijing, Tong Ji University Shanghai, City University Hong Kong, University of Auckland, Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi, University of Porto, European Forum Alpbach and the European Culture Forum Brussels.
