With the news that a coronavirus vaccine may be starting to be distributed from early to mid 2021, there is a growing hope that the direction and the dynamics of COVID-19 crisis could fundamentally be changing. The ability to weather a crisis of this magnitude in Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region depends upon partnerships and collaborations around research capacity and infrastructure, public health system capacity, economic, social and many other aspects.
The Second Birds of a Feather(BOF2) on the COVID-19 eResearch Experiences and Collaborations in Australasia and Southeast Asia–Upskilling Support for Pandemic Response, Preparedness and Recovery will be at the Data Science Xchange Conference, coordinated by Perdana University (Malaysia).
The focus of this BOF discussion will be on how to enhance the key roles of:
research digital infrastructure,
data protection and data privacy, and
global data and workflow sharing for COVID-19 and beyond within bioinformatics and other disciplines.
We will also be discussing the delivery of virtual training services and related upskilling educational activities to accompany the above areas in the era following the Coronavirus Pandemic.
In the discussion we hope to identify the partnerships and collaborations as well as the challenges and the blockers that need to be overcome in order to keep working on to ensure the momentum gained this year is sustained.
